The Zebra Crossing Joke

by woodward on 16 February 2011

Vocabulary

zebra crossing = another word for a pedestrian crossing (white lines painted across the road signalling that pedestrians can cross safely).
Pedestrian = a person walking in the street

The Joke

Pedestrian one: I’ve been waiting here for five minutes to cross the road
Pedestrian two: There’s a zebra crossing further down the road.
Pedestrian one: Well I hope he’s having more luck than I’m having!

Why is it funny?
It’s funny because pedestrian number one has misinterpreted zebra crossing (pedestrian crossing) for a real zebra (animal) crossing the road.
